Looks like we will get another Country Music Drama in the vein of The Thing Called Love, this time with a country star trying to get back in the limelight. The film is set to star Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Leighton Meester and Garrett Hedlund and is called Love Don’t Let Me Down
In “Love,” Hedlund plays a young rising singer-songwriter who becomes involved with a fallen country singer played by Paltrow.
They embark on a career resurrection tour with her husband-manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Meester).
Romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all.
Music based storylines amuse me. They differ from musicals in that they don’t randomly break out into song, but music is still a big part of the movie. We get to see a movie with a storyline and characters in a real setting, but also get to be entertained by the stars themselves performing musical numbers.
Now while I am usually against the idea that just because you are a popular singer, you deserve to be an actor, in most cases where a singer gets a gig as an actor who is playing a singer I can forgive it.
While the lead will be played by Garrett Hedlund, who has been in a handful of films and will be staring as Sam Flynn in Tron Legacy, I have never heard him sing. Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester recently released a pop single but barely sings, but she is always fun to watch.
We already know Paltrow can sing and while he is only playing her manager, I would guess that Tim McGraw may pick up a guitar at some point.
