I was concerned when we first reported on The Exorcism of Emily Rose that the dramatic events and the shocking story were going to be left behind in a courtroom drama, and that the story of Emily Rose would be lost.
Okay so trailers can be cut quite a number of ways, but this trailer through dtheatre, shows a very different tale.
The lawyer is still investigating, and there looks to be courtroom scenes, but there is either a lot of backstory or flashbacks in the Priests storytelling. That’s one good thing covered. The other is that it does appear to be pretty damn creepy with some good images and potentially scary moments. For me the freakiest moment is the tape playing and the words saying that it is a real recording, that’s just what scares me I guess, like the White Noise trailer where the actual audio recording plays of someones voice who is long dead. Freaky.
So it’s looking pretty good, but the feeling you get at the end is that this trailer is very much giving the strong impression that the movie is from the religious aspect, in that there is a demonic possession. However entertaining that may be, how will that be for the family and those that were really affected by the incident? We can return to the old line that it’s just a movie though, or we may find that it balances out the viewpoint during the actual movie. It’s something I thing we’ll have to wait and see.
On pure movie value though, this trailer looks good, and a lot better than I thought the original direction of the movie was going to go. What do you think?
