Joel Silver says that the Sgt Rock film will be setting into high gear after reading the script of the big screen adaptation of the World War 2 soldier comic book character.
Except that it won’t be World War 2?
Part of the reason it seems is that Silver just received a new draft of the script this week and the story will not be set during World War II but rather take place in the not-too-distant future.
Silver says “It’s a little bit in the future. As a war movie, it’s not going to be ‘where it’s been,’ it’s going to be ‘where it’s going.’ We didn’t want to do Iraq, we didn’t want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war.”
Genius! Lets take the setting away from the core character, remove everything that makes him what he is, and then throw all of that just over the rainbow into the Future.
You know, a war movie set in the not to distant future could be great if done right. They might even have a good film on their hands here. But WHY SGT ROCK??? Really? They couldn’t just make a future speculative war movie?? GI Joe did it. Maybe they should call it GI Joe and reboot it for the fans who hated the adaptation?
This just isn’t Sgt Rock and Easy Company.. at all.
