Looks like Wes Craven has dropped the word, and will be headed to filming Scream 4 in May.
Craven recently finished “My Soul to Take,” which is scheduled for release sometime this year. And in May, he starts on “Scream 4.”
Kevin Williamson who has written the rest of the films in the franchise, as well as I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Vampire Diaries has written the script for the fourth entry. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are returning for what is intended to be a new trilogy.
Its been hinted that the new ensemble cast film will be heavy with popculture references to horror films, and be set 10 years after the last one (its been 10 years since that film anyways), which could make more sense for the ultra paranoid Sidney Prescott, who’s life was crippled with fear over her 3 previous encounters with serial killers. At this point you would expect her to be locked up in a saferoom somewhere not even answering her door for Jehova Witnesses. At least with a decade of peace she might have thought it was safe to go back into the water.
But that was my theory for a new Scream film. That Sidney would be the killer. Have her finally snap and flip the moral coin the other way. Becoming the killer because she somehow figures there must always BE a Ghostface, and lose her grip on reality. All that paranoia and fear has to mess you up.
