Still looking for a Director to handle Twilight’s anticlimactic 4th chapter Breaking Dawn, speculated to be filmed at once but released as two films, Summit is now rumoured to have approached Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Bill Condon.
Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)
No decisions are likely to be made until the studio delivers screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s detailed outline to the directors. That should happen sometime next week.
Still unconfirmed whether it will be in two films, but the sound of money trucks backing up to their door will likely convince them of the pocketbook raping this emo-epic film will encourage, they still don’t have a director.
I don’t have an opinion on any of these directors in relation to Twilight as it seems left field for any of them. Rumour had it that they were still courting Chris Weitz, who had his sights set on another film.
