I have decided to call the weekly DVD and BluRay release report Blu Tuesday for now. So thats the title… til I find something better.
This week is a little light, and we are are cycling into those big hits that came out at Christmas on the big screen.
Lets take a look at the short list we will see on the retail shelves today!
An Education It’s 1961 and attractive, bright 16-year-old schoolgirl, Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is poised on the brink of womanhood, dreaming of a rarefied, Gauloise-scented existence as she sings along to Juliette Greco in her Twickenham bedroom. Stifled by the tedium of adolescent routine, Jenny can’t wait for adult life to begin. Never got to seeing this one, but everyone who has is telling me I have to. Might just pick this one up out of faith. |
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel Pop sensations Alvin, Simon and Theodore end up in the care of Dave Seville’s twenty-something nephew Toby (Zachary Levi). The boys must put aside music superstardom to return to school, and are tasked with saving the school’s music program by winning the $25,000 prize in a battle of the bands. But the Chipmunks unexpectedly meet their match in three singing chipmunks known as The Chipettes—Brittany, Eleanor and Jeanette. Romantic and musical sparks are ignited when the Chipmunks and Chipettes square off. As much as I liked the first one better, I can still look you squarely in the eye and say I liked the Chipmunks movies. They are full of subtle wit and charm that plays to my nostalgic heartstrings while hypnotizing my children with their song. This is getting bought today. |
Sherlock Holmes Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) has made his reputation finding the truth at the heart of the most complex mysteries. With the aid of Dr. John Watson (Jude Law), his trusted ally, the renowned “consulting detective” is unequaled in his pursuit of criminals of every stripe, whether relying on his singular powers of observation, his remarkable deductive skills, or the blunt force of his fists. But now a storm is gathering over London, a threat unlike anything that Holmes has ever confronted… and just the challenge he’s looking for. While I would have preferred more of Rachel McAdams, I still liked this movie and especially like how it sets up for more adventures. Its not as traditional as I would have expected them to do Holmes, but I think that’s why I like it so much. Bought. |
Bit of a short list today… Is anything making your buy list or are you all saving your money for the Lord of the Rings (Theatrical Edition) BluRay release coming up?
