Steve Carell was on a press junket appearance for his new film Date Night, and he was caught talking about the much anticipated but vacant Anchorman sequel.
On where things are now…
“We’re all absolutely into it happening. [The first film] was fun. That was really fun to do. [But] they haven’t written a script yet. … I don’t think they’ve [even] decided on a story line yet.”On speaking with star Will Ferrell…
“I spoke to Will about ‘Anchorman 2’ about two weeks ago. We would all want to do another one.”On his own hold-ups…
“There’s a script written for ‘Get Smart 2’ that may or may not be made at some point. I think it turned out well. I think the script is good. It’s just a matter of whether [the studio is] going to pull the trigger on it.”
Rumours of an Anchorman script to be set in the 80s staging a comeback for Ron Burgundy to utter silliness of having Ron Burgundy frozen then brought back in the future to be the Anchorman on the Moon. But it looks like there isn’t a script or even a vision for a sequel short of their desire to do it.
I think Carell has set his career up nicely with solid TV work and strategic feature films that give us all the silly Carell we can handle without overwhelming us with his style of comedy so we get tired of him.
I was very impressed with his Maxwell Smart in Get Smart (I grew up on the original series) and he just doesn’t look like he is slowing down, but the key to that is not speeding up.
I would be all for an Anchorman 2 or a Get Smart 2.
