There can be only one. Let me rephrase that. There SHOULD have been only one. All of The Highlander films after the first one have been total rubbish… my bum itches just thinking about them. I didn’t mind the TV show too much… but even that went treading on ground it should never have walked upon. Connor MacLeod won the prize, that’s it, it’s over. Oh… apparently not. Anyway…
Shooting for the new Highlander (the first of a trilogy… yes that’s right… 2 more after this one) will begin in October. Can ANYONE out there give me any reason at all that I should be even slightly excited about this project? The good folks over at M&C give us this:
This new adventure to be, starring Adrian Paul is the first feature in the Trilogy. The Source will tell the story of Immortals as they quest to locate the Holy Grail of their world. The entire series of films will chronicle the origins of the Immortals.
Director Brett Leonard commented “This is a tremendous opportunity for a storyteller of this genre to take part in the mythology of 20 years.” He continues that “Highlander is an amazing ongoing story that I can bring my visual style to… Everything I have done has led me to this kind of mythical fantasy.”
It doesn’t help matters that Leonard hasn’t directed anything worth watching. Am I just being pessimistic or is this project really doomed? Does anyone out there have any real hope for this thing?
