So right on the heels of saying Mattew Vaughn was in negotiations to direct X-Men First Class, we not only get confirmation that he has the job, we get an ambitious release date! June 3, 2011!
20th Century Fox has announced a June 3rd 2011 release date for the spin-off feature “X-Men: First Class” and has officially confirmed that Matthew Vaughn (“Kick Ass,” “Layer Cake”) is set to direct.
The statement included the short synopsis: “Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. They were closest of friends, working together, with other mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.”
I am very encouraged to see Matt Vaughn take on the X-Men Prequel story of Xavier and Magneto.
It sounds like this will actually predate X-Men Origins Wolverine in part, which means it might just take on such badguys as the Shadow King or better yet SINISTER!!! Who else was around back then?
But it sounds more like the baddy will be Magneto as he defects from Xavier’s vision (after helping him create Cerebro) taking with him a handful of mutants in line with his cause and forming the Brotherhood.
But what makes me curious is that they set a June 2011 release date? Isn’t that a big fast? They havent even finished a script or casting and expect the film to be done in just over a year?
That’s fast!
