Dick Tracey sequel on for Beatty?

DickTracy_Beatty.jpgWarren Beatty made his intentions clear an age ago about making a sequel to Dick Tracey, but something stood in his way (thank god) and that was some arguement over who owned the rights and who should have owned them, namely him.

One law suit later and according to Cinematical he’s cleared his first hurdle.

With a victory in US district court this week, Warren Beatty has taken the first step down what looks to be a very, very long road towards his goal of making a sequel to Dick Tracy. Ultimately, what Beatty wants is a declaration of his ownership of the film and all accompanying rights, as well as $30 million in damages from Tribune Media Services. According to Beatty, Tribune somehow has made it “commercially impossible” for a sequel to happen– though apparently $30 million will fix that right up. He claims he was initially “assigned” the complete rights to the franchise, and that when Tribune reclaimed them, they failed to take the proper legal steps.

So now he’s won the right to sue for the rights…Cinematical think it’s his grandkids that will be making this movie when he wins the rights and they’re not far off. By the time he’s managed to get through the courts for everything he’s after, will the desire for this character still be there?
