OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.
“Real Steel” is directed by Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum” franchise and “Date Night”).
This first glimpse of Real Steal looks very promising , I mean come on how bad-azz does that robot look? When I was a kid my neighbor used to engineer these little robots for himself and his son to compete in those robot fights. Man was I jealous, I quickly scurried to the basement to find any broken electronics I could find to build my very own fighting robot. But since the first thing I saw was my sisters Barbie dolls and a magnify glass I was quickly distracted.
I really hope this film looks as good as this photo, I mean come on look at the LEDs on that robot! Quite fancy, I bet it looks even better after its opponent chain saws it in half! Anyways, since it’s probably going to be a while until we see some footage. For fun, what famous robots would you enjoy seeing fight to the death? How about… Robocop VS Optimus Prime!
