THE GENERAL IDEA
June Havens (Diaz) finds her everyday life tangled with that of a secret agent (Cruise) who has realized he isn’t supposed to survive his latest mission. As their campaign to stay alive stretches across the globe, they soon learn that all they can count on is each other.
THE GOOD
The action. This movie runs at a high pace all the way through, and its the best part about the movie. Cruises is his normal charming cocky self and short of jumping on couches, you are just shy of having him figured out.
The action is the real star in this film though, as it is the only thing distracting you from the rest of it all.
THE BAD
Diaz is not the bad part about this. I think she just wasn’t the right person to cast, period. If they had found someone with enough likable charm to keep up with Cruise, then her somewhat clumsy and painfully average personality woudlnt have been a drawback. I think its just miscasting, as the role of the involuntary sidekick might have worked with someone with a tiny bit more depth.
And while the action is good, delivering it hits some rough patches as some of the effects are Origins Wolverine bad, and it really distracts from the over the top action that you are relying on at this point.
Story takes a real back seat here. Every illogical step this movie makes needs to be forgiven so that they can get to more action and charm. There is so much that just doesn’t make sense in this movie that the suspension of disbelief is stretched beyond its limit. Everything they do that doesn’t make sense would result in the rolling of the credits if they did what does make sense, so its all sacrificed to bring on the next action scene.
I could spend all day long telling you what doesn’t make sense here, but it would spoil the whole movie.
OVERALL
This movie gets all its points from Diaz looking good in a bikini, Cruise being the over cocky and charming reckless spy hero and of course all the exciting action. Its an alright mindless summer flick and I stress the mindless.
I give Knight and Day a 4.5 out of 10
