A few weeks back I posted the trailer for the new Seymour Hoffman film Capote. The film looks just fantastic and is getting huge praise from those lucky enough to have already seen it… especially up the road from my place at the Toronto Film Festival.
One thing in particular that’s getting tons o’ buzz is the performance of Hoffman in the lead role. Many people are already proclaiming him as a favorite for the Oscar this year as best actor. The good folks over at MSNBC give us this:
In real life, character actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has a beard, pot belly, deep voice and a graduate student’s disheveled demeanor — all of which disappear in an amazing screen transformation that is the talk of the Toronto film Festival.
Now I have to be careful of what I say here… because I still have yet to see Capote… but man it’s going to be hard to beat the performance Russell “Mr. Jack Ass” Crowe gave in Cinderella Man. Yeah, no one went to see it… and people hate Crowe now… but like it or not he gave one HELL of a performance in that film. It’ll be interesting to see how Hoffman’s performance in Capote measures up.
