Seems like not a day goes by without another casting announcement for X-Men First Class.
And right on the heels of discrediting Aaron Johnson as Cyclops, it seems Lucas Till has been cast potentially to play Scott Summers’ younger brother Alex – the mutant known as Havok.
According to Entertainment Weekly Lucas Till, who starred in Hannah Montana: The Movie and will be seen next year in Battle: Los Angeles, has been cast as Havok in X-Men: First Class. Alex Summers is the younger brother of Cyclops and can generate powerful plasma blasts which can be fired from his body (usually hands).
Yesterday Kick-Ass actor Aaron Johnson was reportedly cast as Cyclops, but EW say that isn’t the case. They also say that “these parts may not be the actual characters in the movie. Instead, this could be part of a misdirection campaign to keep some surprises from X-Men fans.” So Lucas Till may have actually been cast as Cyclops or another character instead.
I am kind of hoping for some planned misdirection. The ages of Xavier and Magneto would work to play younger versions of themselves, but once they start their First Class, I would have expected them to be much older. Maybe through some movie magic they will age McAvoy and Fassbender.
Younger characters that would work so far and fit are Alice Eve for Emma Frost. Caleb Landry Jones is being tapped as Banshee who should be a little older than the other students (and a former Interpol Cop), and rumours say Amber Heard will be Mystique.
Now we get Lucas Till as Havok? I like the idea of including the character, but with the announcement of Aaron Johnson now being a false rumour, could Lucas Till be Scott Summers?
I think I like that idea better. I like Aaron Johnson, but I don’t think he is a fit for Cyclops.
