Just yesterday I was singing George Clooney‘s praises about the amount of good movies he’s starting to come out with and his excellent moves behind the camera. Well looks like he’s doing another one.
For those of you who have seen the excellent and frightening movie Fail Safe from 1964 and then the live TV remake Fail Safe from 2000, you should congratulate yourself. You’re probably in a very small, exclusive group. Both movies are excellent, although I do prefer the original for tension, but both carry a huge cast who perform excellently. The latter stars the great Richard Dreyfuss who I adore as an actor, the superb Brian Dennehy, and surprising castings such as Noah Wyle and his mate Clooney.
Well according to the knowledgeable Cinematical (from IMDB), he’s looking to repeat the live movie performance with the classic Network, directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Faye Dunaway (with what?) and William Holden.
Simply put the story is about a TV News Network that realises the viewers want more entertainment. They change their programming and the older Anchor is set to be fired, until he loses his grip on air and rants in spectacular fashion. He’s a success, and pretty soon a news evangalist becoming bigger and crazier than the Network can cope with. It’s an amazing look into society and our Television.
This is a superb move, and I love the idea that Clooney is behind it, he’s showing that he’s got a real film makers eye and he’s got his eyes on some incredibly meaty and exciting projects. Have you seen these movies? Are you keen to see a live version of Network?
