looks like WB has got themselves a taste of Ryan Reynolds and they are just not willing to share. They are already greenlighting a Green Lantern sequel and rumour has it will be a trilogy, that could potentially pre-occupy Reynolds for the forseeable future.
But what does this mean for Deadpool.
Geoff Johns dropped massive hints at Comic Con that the Green Lantern franchise could be a trilogy, and now the WB is writing a sequel for a film that hasn’t even finished editing. So what does that mean for Deadpool? Can Ryan Reynolds even spare time to play the Merc with a Mouth, if he still has to shoot two more Green Lantern films, especially at this grueling pace?
Last we heard Robert Rodriguez was being courted to direct the Deadpool movie, written by Zombieland duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Ryan Reynolds even said that he talked to Wernick and Reese daily about the Deadpool project, so clearly his heart is in it.
Seems pretty clear that aside from WB wanting to take full advantage of the Green Lantern franchise while they feel they have a hit on their hands, they appear to be monopolizing the actor so he CANT play Deadpool.
The Deadpool film is in development, but no scheduled pre-production or filming as of yet. And it might be hard for them to do that if they want to keep Reynolds in the role.
Superhack Rob Liefeld and creator of Deadpool (but not the guy who made him cool) has been Twittering his frustration and saying he recognizes WB protecting their investment but if Fox doesn’t do something to get a Reynolds Deadpool going they should commit suicide.
I think Reynolds is better suited for Deadpool because of his snarky comedy chops, but I look forward to seeing what he brings to the table with Hal Jordan.
