Red Dead Redemption is one of the most successful and best reviewed video games ever. As of June 2010, the open world action-adventure Western video game has sold five million copies. It’s been so successful, that the hollywood power players are already trying to adapt it to the big screen. It appears, actor Brad Pitt, is the studio’s first choice and has been offered the lead role.
Red Dead Redemption’s synopsis: Most of the game’s story takes place in the year 1911 in the American Old West and follows John Marston, a former outlaw, while he sets out to hunt down his former gang members. Marston’s wife and son are taken hostage by the government in exchange for his services. Having no other choice, he sets out to bring his three former gang members to justice.
According to a report by ShowBizSpy.com, Brad Pitt is the leading candidate to play the role of John Marston in an upcoming movie based off the Red Dead Redemption video game.
“This is an exciting project with a great character at the center of it,” a source told the website. “The idea is to make this in the style of an epic Western movie but with a few modern touches.
“Brad is perfect for the role and he is being given first refusal.”
When asked about the report, Rockstar Games told IGN the studio does not comment on rumor or speculation.
If this in deed is true and does happen in the end, this just would be too awesome. I’ve played Red Dead Redemption, and it’s one of the best games ever. Simply, just think of the best Grand Theft Auto game, multiply it by 1 million and make it about the Western world. The characters, the gameplay, the music, the sound, the plot, etc – everything is just great; it’s a gorgeous beautiful piece of a video game. I’m not kidding – it is. So to have this being made to a film, and having Pitt be the lead role, would just be wonderful. I’m all for it.
What do you guys think? Have you played RDR? Would you like a movie about it? Do you want Pitt in it? Or do you want someone else, like who?
