Andrew Garfield talks Spider-Man

My stance on the sore spot in Hollywood that is the Spider-Man is that I have quiet optomism for this reboot. Yes, they could have moved forward, but there is just as many reasons to just change cast and move forward than there is for a reboot, so now that they have chosen reboot, I just have resolved to hopefulness that its good.

And they cast Andrew Garfield as Spidey? Well there are a lot of opinions on that, but now thanks to RiskyBusiness we get to hear what Garfield himself feels on being cast.

“I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, “Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?” [laughs] “Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks…” So my seven-year-old self started screaming in my soul and saying, This is what we’ve been waiting for.

Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it’s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure. It’s a true honor to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it’s meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people. So yeah, I feel like I’ve been preparing for it for a while. Ever since Halloween when I was four years old and I wore my first Spider-Man costume.”

Sounds like he has a passion for the role, though I am still trying to figure this guy into the suit. Maybe once I see him all illussions will be lost.

I don’t have a lot of exposure to this guy, so I don’t know what to make of this.

But anything has to be better than Spider-Man 3. I just wish Raimi had at least one shot to redeem himself. The first two were awesome, and people seem to want to dismiss that because of Sony’s pressure for him to make changes in the third film.

But that’s all history now (history seems to move very fast in recent years) and now I have to hold out hope for a new Spider-Man, and we hope they do it right.
