Steve Martin is just a comedic genius. We actually just talked about our admiration of him a few days ago on The Audio Edition. The man is pure funny. As a performer, Stand-Up comedian and especially as a writer (and not to mention probably the best Oscar Host of all time) Steve Martin excels.
It was nice to read this morning that Martin was honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor (one of the biggest comedy awards given). Jam Showbiz gives us these details:
Among those saluting the versatile performer at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts were actors Tom Hanks, Lily Tomlin, Diane Keaton, Martin Short and Claire Danes and musicians Paul Simon and Randy Newman.
“He’s an original genius,” Short said before the ceremony. “He’s kind of blazed his own trail.”
“I think he’s the most intelligent man I’ve ever met,” said Monty Python veteran Eric Idle. “Honesty, simplicity and truth are the secret to his comedy.”
We at The Movie Blog saulte Steve Martin. May his brilliance continue to entertain us for decades to come. Just stop making dumb films like Bringing Down The House and everything will be fine.
