King Kong long and expensive

KingKong-Still.jpgNo surprise here, but what always hits me is that people can’t seem to Project Manage well enough to anticipate such huge hikes…and I don’t want to hear any baloney about creatives can’t be managed. I ran a team of hapless creatives before, and Project Management was working…until I left and the company has since failed…anyway, I’m getting sidetracked again!

According to Coming Soon King Kong is running over budget and over three hours.

The New York Times reports that Peter Jackson’s King Kong is substantially longer than Universal Pictures had anticipated and the extra length (mostly due to the special effects) has helped increase the budget by a third, to $207 million…

…with seven weeks to go, they have agreed to release King Kong at a length of three hours.

Wow, well the Lord of the Rings films were all sitting about that time, so there’s no huge surprise here is there? The budget though is. That’s a huge leap! Still, I think they’ll reap the rewards of bowing to Jacksons vision. Another Rings size hit?
