During an interview on the Comedy Death-Ray podcast (run by Between Two Ferns co-writer Scott Auckerman) comedian Zach Galifianakis stated he is currently in “deep protest” over something on set during the filming of The Hangover 2. With the recent release that Mel Gibson is making a cameo appearance in the sequel, the timing of this statement is spawning rumours Galifianakis is not cool with it.
“A movie you’re acting in, you don’t have a lot of control — you just show up and vomit your lines out. I’m not the boss. I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to [listen] … I’m not making any leeway.”
Galifianakis refused to get into specifics but told Auckerman, “I’ll tell you about it later. It’s very frustrating.” Word round the campfire is that Galifianakis is taking specific issue with yesterday’s news that Mel Gibson would be filming a cameo in the film.
I worry when I hear about actors who are involved in a project that they feel forced into. Moreso when they utter phrases like “you just show up and vomit your lines out”.
He sounds like a retail sales employee.
But Mel Gibson’s cameo role might be part of an effort to restore some appreciation for the actor amidst some pretty bad press he has been getting lately.
And what if the assumption is not accurate and there is a bigger issue than a cameo appearance by an unliked actor. Maybe Gibson’s appearance in the film is irrelevent to him and there are bigger issues.
I am sure this will come out eventually, but the very notion that he admittedly isn’t giving it his all for this sequel does not bode well for the production.
