Seems international copyright means little to nothing to some studios. Especially South Asian locales where it probably does mean nothing.
Exhibit A: A complete ripoff of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast by a Thai studio called GM Toons.
This sloppy reproduction of the entire film with slight character variations isn’t just inspired by the same public domain fairy tale. This IS almost shot for shot right out of Disney’s take on Beauty and the Beast.
Hell, even their introductory logo for GM Toons is a blatant copy of the Disney logo with a castle like symbol accented by an arcing glow reminiscent of Tinkerbell’s flightpath in the traditional Disney presentation.
It staggers my mind that they would make such obvious and shameless ripoffs. At the same time, Google is oblivious to any company called GM Toons, so its likely this is some 8 year old Thai animation prodigy’s personal project.
