While considered a legend even with stains like Ghost of Mars and the poorly reviewed The Ward to his credit (though our man on the scene liked it), John Carpenter is now set to adapt Darkchylde, a comic book series.
The Film Stage reports
Based on the comic series created by Randy Queen which follows the Southern teenage girl Ariel Chylde, Carpenter has been chosen as the director and commented in a press releases that the protagonist is “the best female character since Halloween’s Laurie Strode” and Queen says he is “beyond thrilled” to have him direct the film version of his comic.
Carpenter is still co-producing this, so he has input, but it will be material he didn’t write.
I am not familiar with this particular comic book series, but from its synopsis it should be something that fits well with Carpenter. Ariel Chylde is a cursed teen who can become the creatures from her many nightmares, and then must save her small town from the forces of darkness she’s set free.
Have you read the book? What do you think about the fit?
