I never cared much for Robert De Niro in comedy, I don’t know what it was but he just didn’t fit well for me. Then there’s the whole “is De Niro overrated” bit, and I’m not sure about that, sometimes he most definitely is and sometimes I’m on the fence. However things might change my mind as the news comes that he’s returning to a Mafia role.
From Variety through Coming Soon:
Robert De Niro is attached to star in the adaptation of Don Winslow’s yet-to-be-published The Winter of Frankie Machine, reports Variety…De Niro would play a Mafia hit man who has given up the game to become the proprietor of a bait shop. When he finds out that he’s been targeted for a hit, he gets back in the business. No writer is yet aboard to adapt the book, which is expected to hit stores in 2006 from Knopf.
Sounds like a similar story to one we’ve seen before, but I genuinely am interested in De Niro again for this. It’ll be a good role to see him in, perhaps he’ll get to be a little angry and unhinged too.
