The inevitable evolution to 3D is taking huge leap of faith forward as home theater embraces it, the studios are starting to give them a reason to own them.
Disney is among the first to announce a huge push of 3D releases in 2011 with at least 15 of its titles to come out on 3D Bluray.
The most notable entries on the list are celebrated animated classics “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast”, current box-office hits “Tron: Legacy” and “Tangled”, and catalog including Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, G-Force and Chicken Little.
Digital Animation is the easiest to translate to 3D so it makes sense that Disney will lead the way with converting old titles while studios still cringe waiting for Post Conversion 3D techniques to improve.
I don’t even own a 3D tv, and I am eager to get my hands on these copies just to update the library and usher in the inevitable future. Of course the BluRay 3D versions will also include DVD and Digital Copies as well (my favourite way to pick up a copy of a film) that are more than capable of being watched in old fashioned outdated 2D.
Oh I know there are still dissenters out there opposed to the 3D wave, but when 3D is ultimately brought to reality where it is the standard and no one is complaining about it anymore we will talk with nostalgia about those people complaining the way we hear our grandparents talk about how sound added to film was so controversial, and how our generation scoffs at bad CG that is so lifelike and detailed now.
I am kidding. Not really. But I am. Just sayin.
