“Three’s Company: The Drama” featured Franco and company performing “an episode of Three’s Company sans laugh track (and with the sex jokes and desperation amped up), then projected that footage on all four walls of a small room filled with wicker furniture that itself re-created the sitcom’s main apartment set.” And as The Franco now recounts, the rights holders to the sitcom were so taken with what he did that they want to work with him.
Franco as Jack Tripper? Interesting. I can sort of see ‘Three’s Company’ done as a stage play -after all, most sitcoms revolve around a small shortlist of locations. Quite a bit of Three’s was devoted to slapstick and physical gags and suggestive humor. It was a funny show. But when they got the late Don Knotts as Mr. Furley it was gold. As a stage show, I’m okay with that. Shite, folks will make a stage play out of ‘The Love Boat’ if they think they could get away with it.
But as a theatrical film…? Now that’s where I have some doubts. While it is clear some stuff could come up to date, it would be rather uneffective, I would think. What are you going to do, exactly? Have another Chrissy (dumb blonde?) The little show at Sundance may have killed, but it’s not that exciting to warrant big screen treatment. The *did* include the wicker chairs, after all.
Whatcha say int’l friends? Wanna see a big screen version of Jack Tripper?
