Although there’s always part of me that thinks lifetime achievement and posthumous awards are almost a slap in the face, there is some great justice about this Grammy being awarded to the great Richard Pryor.
The BBC have the full story and explain why Pryor is receiving a music award:
Although Pryor, who died in December, was not a musician his comedy albums won him five Grammys during his career.
It’s great that he won the Grammys while he was alive and that this one is more of a statement for his lifes work, the awards I find tough to understand are those where the person has won nothing throughout their life and it almost appears like a titbit, something that’s just been thrown off the back of the lorry, or perhaps just following popular opinion. This is definitely not the case here, and it’s well deserved.
