The Pink Panther reviews are coming in… and while they aren’t horrible horrible horrible, they certainly aren’t positive either. not what I (or most Steve Martin fans out there) were hoping for.
I’ll admit, when I saw the first round of promotion materials for The Pink Panther I thought it looked totally horrendous. However, as newer material came out my hopes started to rise until I actually started looking forward to seeing it. I guess I should have stuck with my first instincts. Here’s what some of the critics are saying about The Pink Panther:
“Steve Martin’s foray as Inspector Clouseau exhibits bursts of wild-and-craziness, but hardly enough to sustain even its relatively brief running time.”
Brian Lowry, VARIETY“Even with the inspired choice of Steve Martin in the Clouseau role, this Panther picture is more bumbling and fumbling than the blissfully oblivious, accident-prone Inspector.”
Michael Rechtshaffen, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER“Steve plays the character as a sort of weird mix between Austin Powers and Ernest P. Worrell. It’s funny, but he’s not exactly our beloved Inspector.”
Joshua Tyler, CINEMABLEND.COM“To say that Steve Martin does justice to the `Pink Panther’ film series is not to say that you should drop everything and run out to see Martin’s `The Pink Panther.'”
Josh Larsen, SUN PUBLICATIONS (CHICAGO, IL)
Like I said, not exactly what I was hoping to hear. As of this moment, The Pink Panther is holding a poor 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. From what I’m reading, I’m not expecting it to go up much. Damn… too bad. I was really starting to hold out hope for this one.
