MTV-UK lets us in on the skinny:
Britney Spears is reportedly planning to re-launch her movie career, with insiders claiming that the pop princess is already reading through scripts for possible roles.
The 29-year old, who has previously starred in 2002 flick Crossroads, Glee and US sitcom How I Met Your Mother, is said to be “considering” a variety of of projects in order to kick-start her acting career.
The report says among the three scripts currently being looked at is a comedy-spoof film and an action picture. Strange that there is no mention of trying to get ‘Trading Paint’ up and running again. Trading Paint was a script by James V. Hart that dealt with a NASCAR backdrop; it was being developed for a possible film project a number of years ago. The results of 2003’s ‘Crrossroads’ helped pull that plug.
Many folks are pointing to her showing up on Glee (a show which I think is overrated to say the least) as a sign that she could act. Who did she play? Oh that’s right…herself…in a musical segment.
Here’s the problem- it really ISN’T a question of whether or not she can act, it is a question of how the public will react to her and/or take her seriously. Choosing a comedy that pokes fun and takes jabs at superstars isn’t too risky; I don’t know if the action script is a “The Bodyguard” sort of thing or Barberella got ressurected. But I will say this. Look at Mariah Carey. Remember Glitter. Flash forward to her supporting role in Precious. That’s the kind of part Spears should look for– something in which she shows up onscreen, but you are wondering as the film progresses “where is she” and then realize she has gone so far into that part that you didn’t even know it was her until the credits roll.
Otherwise, it’s just poke fun at yourself (which is nice, but safe) or it’s remake Pam Anderson’s Barb Wire, y’know what I mean? Or maybe Skyline 2, in which the nasty aliens suck your brains out…choose wisely, Britney.
How about it, int’l friends? What role do you think she should attempt, if any?
