X-Men First Class may have Sequels

It looks like X-Men: First Class is being developed with the potential for sequels that could fill the gaps of history from the 60s on up to the current timelines. The comics survived decades of storytelling, so why not the films?

“1962 is far more grounded in the world of the ’50s,” Vaughn said. “I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you’ve got The Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power…”

Singer added that the next installments could be set in the ’70s and ’80s, respectively.

“That’s an idea that’s been discussed,” he said. “How the characters go through time. But only to a point – they can’t age too fast!”

I like the idea of a film franchise that is separate enough from the existing X-Men films that it offers back story with enough characters and side stories to tell that can influence the future X-Films without feeling too much like a prequel.

There are enough characters here who’s fate is not already spelled out for them so it keeps a level of mystery and still telling the story of how Xavier came to be who we meet in the first X-Men.

I would love to see story arcs that cover more about Hellfire Club and even the Sentinels, which were hinted at in a Danger Room segment.

I really hope they introduce Essex. He is my all time favourite villain in the X-Men books.
