I don’t get to the movies as often as my colleagues here at the Movie Blog, but if there is one thing I do managed to accomplish on a weekly basis, it would be DVD shopping. I have great pride in my collection and as mentioned in a past audio edition (with video), I fit the profile of those who will watch a movie over and over again. Those purchases of course are favorites like Ghostbusters, but I am also very willing to pick up those flicks which will simply look good on the shelf and strike conversation, such as Cabin Boy. Finally we can’t leave out those to good to be true finds. The ones which you would never search for but since it’s in the bargain bin for $6.99 you’ll pick up that copy of Jaws 4 The Revenge, just because you thought Michael Caine was cool as Hoagie and it has Mario Van Peebles in it.
For all you DVD junkies out there, just as in the music biz, Tuesday is new releases day. The day of the week where brand spanking new titles get placed on the DVD shelves at your local Best Buy -or whatever store you buy your DVD’s-, and if you’re lucky they will mark down those new releases to $19.99 for the first week.
This Tuesday we are fortunate, there are a slew of quality items being stocked. I foresee in my days to come, bowls of popcorn with Keira Knightley -you’re not invited for this one-, John Cusack, Captain America and signing along with the Man in Black.
In case you are unaware of these new releases, here they are; with a bit of my 2cents to go along if you’re interested.
Ultimate Avengers – The Movie (anticipated)
Lady and the Tramp (1955) 50th Anniversary Edition
Domino: Whay did I give this mediocre movie three stars? One star for Keira Knightley, one star for Mickey Rourke -because he’s cool- and one star for Christopher Walken. That was good enough for me.
Rent: Rent was very good, that is if you’re into the whole singing and dancing thing. Plus Rosario Dawson is a babe, and she went to high school with a buddy of mine.
The Weather Man: Wow; that was fast. Wasn’t this in theaters like two weeks ago? Nicolas Cage is usually pretty sweet, but this one feel short a bit. I’ll wait until I find it for $6.99 -it does have Michael Caine in it after all-.
Ultimate Avengers – The Movie: I really want this to be good. I am predicting so and I will let you all know on Wednesday. HULK SMASH!
Pride & Prejudice: Keira Knightley, Keira Knightley and Keira Knightley!
Walk the Line: I know there are mixed feelings on this one, but I rather enjoyed it. I saw it late, but I am a big fan of Joaquin Phoenix and I truly thought he did a fantastic job at being Johnny Cash. He sounded like him and he sang very well -yes he did the singing, infact I bought the soundtrack-.
Lady and the Tramp (1955) 50th Anniversary Edition: How can you not love this classic tale. If you have kids I would highly recommend picking this up. You know how Disney is, this will disappear from the shelves for ten years so they can sell the crap out of the 60th anniversary edition.
What are your thoughts?
p.s. Happy hunting
