During most film productions we come across the term “Short List”. What is it? It’s something of a “wish list” of potential names filling out various roles associated with a film production. Darren Aronofsky walked away from directing the Wolverine for his own reasons and left the door wide open for another director to take on the opportunity. Today we discover a short list of potential replacements:
Source: Live for Films
When Darren Aronofsky was attached to direct Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine many people were excited for the film. Then Aronofsky left the project and enthusiasm for the project waned.
Then rumours of who could direct it began to surface. Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) was mentioned and that had potential. However, a new list of potential directors for the film does not include Jones.
Jose Padilha (Elite Squad, RoboCop reboot)
Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity)
Antoine Fuqua (Training Day)
Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go)
Justin Lin (Fast Five)
Gavin O’Connor (Miracle)
James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma)
Gary Shore (commercial director who made this)
That’s a pretty good list but I have no idea who I’d prefer to see take on the job. Jose Padilha is making a name for himself but I’d like to see more of his work. Justin Lin and Doug Liman are both interesting prospects with somewhat open schedules, and could probably both bring uniquely appreciable spins on the popular mutant. I don’t know which one to choose! They’re all talented directors! We’ll see how this one develops and will be sure to relay the news.
