The early Take The Lead reviews have hit the web, and to be honest with you, I’m surprised they’re not as negative as I thought they would be. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still negative, but I think most of us thought the Take The Lead reviews would be deep in a pit somewhere when we all first saw the trailers.
Here’s what some of the critics had to say in their Take The Lead reviews:
“Besides the rousing ending, which combines ballroom and hip-hop moves in an exciting way, the film offers nothing we haven’t seen before.”
Tracy Allerton, SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL“The dance steps are less predictable than the plotline here: gradual building of trust, setbacks, growth experiences, tenderness, the big event. But we, too, find it hard to resist the invitation to the dance.”
Nell Minow, MOVIE MOM AT YAHOO! MOVIES“Banderas’s charm and some choppily edited-and-shot ballroom dancing isn’t enough to save this tired script.”
Steve Rhodes, INTERNET REVIEWS“Antonio Banderas is a charming and talented man, but in Take the Lead he lays on the old-world panache so thick — the accent, the flowery courtliness, the romance of romance — that he comes off like Dracula’s metrosexual cousin.”
Owen Gleiberman, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
Now this may strike you as odd… but I actually count myself as an Antonio Banderas fan. I think the man is actually a gifted actor who needs much better roles. I guess talent doesn’t give you discernment when it comes to picking projects to get involved with.
As of this moment, Take the Lead is holding a failing 45% on Rotten Tomatoes. Cha Cha Cha.
