Gnomeo And Juliet Gets Picked Up By Miramax

Gnomeo and JulietFile this one under “One Studios piece of shit, is another Studios newest film project“. Recently we told you about Pixar (who have recently taken over the animation division at Disney) decided to axe the project that Disney was developing called “Gnomeo and Juliet”. Yes, you guessed it… it’s the Romeo story told with garden Gnomes. Geeeee… I wonder why Lasiter decided to axe it?

But in Hollywood, there is always room for crap! So along comes Miramax! The good folks over at Cinescape give us this:

Miramax Films and Elton John’s Rocket Pictures have set Kate Winslet to voice Juliet in GNOMEO AND JULIET. The CG-animated feature was originally set up at Disney but was recently dropped.

The story is a twist on Shakespeare’s classic that’s set in the world of tacky garden gnomes. The project is described as having a Monty Python sensibility to it with its hip, edgy tone. The script was originally written by Rob Sprackling and John Smith. Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley have done a rewrite.

Oh my goodness. Here’s a tip. If the BEST minds in animation today (The Pixar Generals) decide that a project isn’t worth doing… then you should just leave it alone and walk away. Oh wait… this is Hollywood.
