Jim Carrey was a name that was recently rumored to join the cast and production of the upcoming Kick-Ass 2, but you know what? I dismissed it. Casting rumors, especially Jim Carrey casting rumors, are fickle and can’t be trusted without binding contracts. I’m still taking this name with a grain of salt until someone’s grandmother appears with his social security card and photo ID to testify to this agreement, (old Dave Chappelle joke), but this one seems like it might just really happen. The news comes to us courtesy of twitter, where else, and seems to imply that it’s a done deal.
Jim Carrey has been set to play the role of The Colonel in the Jeff Wadlow-directed sequelKick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall.Deadline broke this August 20when Carrey had the offer to play a guy who helps galvanize the team of misfit super heroes assembled to fight evil. Wadlow just tweeted the news. The sequel brings back Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicolas Cage. Carrey is a big fan of Matthew Vaughn and his original Kick-Ass film.
It’s from Deadline so that must mean it’s pretty official, right? We’ll see. We’ll see. Until then let’s take this with apprehension but also with gleeful optimism as there’s definitely some potential for ‘fun’ with Carrey’s return to the comic book genre. I hear his last outing with comics wasn’t so pleasurable.
