William Shatner Goes Over the Hedge

William Shatner knows no pride. The man will shill anything for a buck. And yet I can’t help but admire the guy. His ability to not take himself seriously has allowed him to turn his Captain Kirk albatross into a Phoenix-like career rejuvenation.

Starting back on Saturday Night Live when he skewered Star Trek fans, Shatner has won back many by his willingness to make fun at his own expense. His CD released last year – Has Been, continued the skewering and added an extra sheen to an already rebuffed image riding the Emmy winning coat tails of his Denny Crane character from Boston Legal.

Has Shatner topped out yet? Not according to AICN where you can find a review of another CGI cartoon movie, Over The Hedge.

In it, Shatner voices a possum, whose main defense mechanism is feigning death. To quote from the review – “Casting William Shatner as Ozzie the Possum was a stroke of demented geek genius. Here’s a character that has to feign death repeatedly, only to deliver deathbed dialog in Shatner’s classic, stilted (and often exaggerated) style. Every moment of this made my geek heart giggle with glee.’

This review and the trailers have me really stoked to see this. Say what you will about the man’s acting ability but you have to admire his willingness to try anything.
