This story is just hilarious… and a little sad at the same time. M&C have run an article that basically lays out that the new movie “Used Guys” has been canceled because it exceeded its budget before even beginning production. Wow!!:
The comedy which would have starred Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller with Jay Roach at the helm may have stalled with the Studio after original US$90 million budget grew to over $110 million. Carrey, Stiller and Roach – had already agreed to pay reductions and cut in backend in order to keep costs down. But more recently, it’s said that Fox asked for deeper cuts.
The reason I’m kinda sad about this is that the idea for the film sounded really funny to me:
‘Used Guys,’ which still may be picked up by another studio for shoot at a later date, is a futuristic story where woman rule the earth, men having become extinct due to consuming a fatal enhancement drink.
Carrey and Stiller were to be featured as two clones to be replaced by newer models, with better lovemaking and listening skills… in order to save themselves, they go on the run to regain their dignity and find the male nirvana, Mantopia.
MANTOPIA!?!?! That fricken RULES! Oh man I’d love to see Stiller and Carrey in a project together, I think it would be GOLD. And this premise sounds fantastic. Man, I hope they can get the books in order and maybe get another studio to pick it up.
