Fantastic Four: The Next Chapter

Oh wow. Perhaps the worst title in the history of sequels has just come out. Fantastic Four 2 would have been good enough… but no… they needed a trendy “tag title” like X-Men: The Last Stand had. And what is the new title for the project? Fantastic Four: The Next Chapter

The next chapter!?!?! Ummm… so what will Fantastic Four 3 be called? The Next NEXT Chapter? So did a room full of suits sit around for 3 weeks in a committee and come up with this nonsense?

However, one shouldn’t get too upset or discouraged by the mere title of a movie. As Josh Tyler points out:

Does the title matter? Not really. Bad titles don’t necessarily mean bad movies, though sometimes it’s indicative of the amount of creativity being brought to bear on the film. Hopefully, this just means that the folks making FF2 have all their creativity focused elsewhere and simply didn’t have time to bother with a decent title. But if you’re going to do something that lame, why not just call it Fantastic Four II or even just abbreviate the hell out of it and call it F4:2, or something equally uncreative but at least not mind numbingly lame?

I agree 100% with him. A bad title does not necessarily equal a bad movie… but this much lack of creativity is at least modestly a cause for concern. Your thoughts?
