Johnny Depp In I Am Legend

There aren’t many names hotter than Johnny Depp right now. And with Priates of the Caribbean 2 (look for my review tomorrow) coming out on Friday, there is no better time for another film project to announce Depp’s involvement and take advantatge of the Pirates Hype.

Word it that Johnny Depp has singed on to play the a big Vampire baddie opposite Will Smith in “I am Legend”. The good folks over at Cinema Blend give us this:

Johnny Depp has joined the Legend cast as well, to co-star opposite Smith. Will plays the last man on Earth, in a world wholly populated by vampire savages. So it seems likely that Depp will play the vampire leader, since the only male, non-vampire character in the script is Will’s dog, and Johnny looks terrible in long floppy ears.

This is pretty interesting news. I actually love it when a big name star takes on the bad guy roles (no one ever did it better than Jonathan Lithgow!!!). I think this is great news… and if an official announcment is indeed coming in the next couple of days, it’s also a stroke of marketing genius!!
