M. Night Shyamalan To Direct Next harry Potter? Not A Chance

The word going around right now is that M. Night Shyamalan may be tagged to direct the next (after the one already in production) installment of the Harry Potter franchise. This has a bunch of people pretty excited.

Even though I’ve recently developed a really bad taste for Shyamalan, I still like him as a director and thing him helming a Potter flick would be a pretty good match. Except… no way is this EVER EVER EVER going to happen. Why won’t it happen? First read what our good friends over at Cinema Blend report Shyamalan said about doing it:

“You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That’s a tricky move,”

So basically what Shyamalan is saying is that he wants total control over the film. He doesn’t want to get anyones approval for things he wants to do in the film and be free to do whatever he wants.

There is no way in hell that JK Rowling is going to let that happen. Not over her dead body.

Would I be interested in seeing M. Night direct Harry Potter? Sure, that could be interesting. But it’ll never happen as long as he wants full control. Nor should he get it.
