I’ve already talked more than enough here on The Movie Blog about how dreadfully awful Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was enough, so I won’t go there again… except to say that MOST fans of the franchise at least agree that the quality of the Pirates films have steadily gone down since the first one.
But even with that being the case… the film made over $960 million world wide. So even though they’ve run this franchise into the ground… the possibility of there being a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is a very real one when so much frigging money is there to be made. So will there be a Pirates of the Caribbean 4?
The good folks overt at ComingSoon have the thoughts of Geoffrey Rush (Captain Barbossa) on the matter:
“I think people will let it sit for a while,” he told us. “There’s a strange attitude about franchise movies. People look at them as that rather than storytelling. Back in the old days, how many Thin Man movies did William Powell end up doing? Probably five or six. How many road movies did Bob and Bing end up doing over 25-year period? There could be a point… because Jack Sparrow is probably now to a certain generation more well known as a representative of the Disney imagination than Mickey Mouse himself and Johnny’s performance in that role is such an extraordinary thing… that it may pop up.”
So basically what we get from that is:
1) There are no Pirates 4 plans YET
2) Rush seems to think there will be eventually
So basically Rush just thinks the same thing most of us do. There will probably eventually be a Pirates 4… but there isn’t one coming anytime drastically soon… especially with the strike coming.
