Remember when there was supposed to be a Six Million Dollar Man movie? if memory serves, it originally had Jim Carrey attached to it… but like every other interesting sounding Carrey project in the last couple of years it just sort of faded away into nothingness and we never heard from it… or of it… again.
Well, the Six Million Dollar Man may not be coming… but that doesn’t mean that a spoof of the show can’t come. Apparently they’re getting ready to do a $40,000 Dollar Man. The good folks over at MovieHole give us this:
Variety says the New Line spoof is about a legendary astronaut and true American hero who finds himself horribly injured in a car accident and rebuilt by the government to be a bionic man, but on a budget of $40,000 — which makes him not all that bionic. Terry Zwigoff (“Ghost World”) will direct. He’s also helping usual cohort Daniel Cloves rewrite the script – which was written by actor (you’ll remember him from “Waiting” and “Kitchen Confidential” John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein).
Since this is going to be a spoof, you can’t really chalk it under the “TV show remake” category. At first I thought this sounded like it could be funny… but the more I think about it, the more I can’t help but wonder if the gag would get REALLY tired REALLY quickly. I honestly can’t remember the last time we had a really good spoof movie. I think the last one I really enjoyed was Hot Shots Part Deux.
