Waitress Hits DVD November 27th

Waitress-DvdOne of my quiet, favorite little films of this year so far has got to be Waitress. The film was charming, touching and had some wonderful laughs along the way… and it reminds us all that Andy Griffith still very much rules the world. The fantastic little film didn’t get much of a release, nor did it get much attention… but those that saw it pretty much all loved it… and rightfully so.

Kerri Russell pulled off a performance that I quite honestly didn’t think she was capable of, and Nathan Fillion just does his usual amazing job. It’s been announced that the movie will be out on DVD come November 27th and I urge you to grab it once it does… it’s a special little film. The press release reads like this From MoviesOnline:

The final film of actress/writer/director Adrienne Shelly (Factotum, The Unbelievable Truth), Waitress stars Keri Russell (The Upside of Anger, “Felicity”) as Jenna, a simple diner waitress stuck in a lousy marriage whose only solace is baking scrumptious pies. Aptly naming her delectable desserts after her daily emotions, Jenna hopes to one day win the local pie-baking contest earning $25,000 and a fresh start. Concocting a recipe for a new life gets difficult though when she finds herself not only pregnant with her good-for-nothin’ husband’s child, but also in love with the town’s awkwardly charming new OB-GYN. While Jenna’s “I Don’t Want Earl’s Baby” pie might not secure her the grand prize, her “Kick In The Pants” pie may be just what she needs. Waitress also features a dynamic supporting cast including EmmyÒ-nominee Cheryl Hines (“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” RV), Nathan Fillion (“Firefly,” Serenity), Jeremy Sisto (Thirteen, “Six Feet Under”) and classic television star Andy Griffith (“The Andy Griffith Show,” “Matlock”).

It should also be mentioned that director Adrienne Shelly, who also is one of the supporting characters in the film, did not live to see her project on the big screen as she was murdered just prior to her film getting picked up. A very sad story. You can read Sharon’s review of Waitress here.
