Despite the critical failure for Halloween, (I’m apparently one of the few critics that actually ENJOYED the flick) things aren’t looking too bad for Rob Zombie. Dimension has recruited the controversial director to write and direct two more movies for the company.
The good folks at Cinematical give us this:
No word yet on what genre these films would fall into. I’d have to bet at least one of them will be a horror flick, but Zombie mentioned in an interview conducted by Cinematical’s own Ryan Stewart that “I’d especially like to make some, you know, violent crime drama,” but added “I don’t know what’s next.” Whatever the films turn out to be, it’s a pretty safe bet that neither will be a Halloween sequel as the director has been quite adamant about not coming back for another stab at the franchise. Zombie is quoted in the Variety piece as saying the agreement with Dimension is the “natural step in the evolution of my film career.”
A lot of people may not be too excited about this news, but I think it’s great news. I think passing on the next Halloween film is a very smart idea, and he should focus on original projects like he had with The Devil’s Rejects. I think the man has a great vision, and if he’s able to make a film that people will not go in wanting to hate it like a lot had done with Halloween, I think it will rapidly improve his reputation as a serious director. Love him or hate him, he’s sticking around! What are your thoughts?
