I remember way back when it was first announced that Underworld director Len Wiseman had been given the nod to helm Die Hard 4… a lot of people hated the idea… but I personally always thought that you could see his style would work well with the Die hard franchise. Well… it did. Die Hard 4 ended up being a pretty damn fun movie, even without saying “fuck” 20 times.
I guess other people have been impressed to, because Wiseman is now apparently positioned to take over 2 major films in the works… the Gears of War film and the remake of Escape From New York. Wow… that’s not a bad day at the office if you’re Wiseman. our friends over at IESB give us this:
The screenplay for Gears of War was written by Stuart Beattie and is slated for 2009 release. The screenplay for the remake of Escape from New York was written by Ken Nolan and is also slated for a 2009 release with Gerard Butler set to portray Snake Plissken.
The article goes on to say that this isn’t 100% confirmed yet… but he is in talks and apparently it’s almost a done deal for both projects.
Personally, I like the move. Wiseman can do action… he’s also pretty good a setting mood too, which would come in very handy when doing an Escape from New York remake for sure. This can work. What do you think?
