With over 700 films getting theatrical release a year now, it’s almost impossible to come across a film that has a truly original (or at least not done 100 times before) idea. So when one comes along, it instantly gets my attention. And this one looks really interesting. Apparently McG (I’m sorry, change the name… are you still bloody 12 years old and think that’s cool?) is looking to bring an old lost Steve McQueen project to life called “Yucatan” that sounds killer interesting to me.
The unique thing about it? And entire epic without any dialog! Think about that… using nothing but images to tell a story. To me that sounds intriguing enough to take a look at for sure. Our good friends over at Slashfilm give us this:
According to the New York Times, the story followed “an archaeologist from the Museum of London who enlists a renegade Navy diver, who works for the oil companies and races motorcycles on the shores of the Mojave, in a plan to explore the cenotes, caves in the Yucatan jungle that reveal underground lakes. Here, a millennium before, Mayan priests sacrificed virgins covered in gold and precious jewels, a fortune rumored to still adorn their skeletons at the bottom of these sacred wells.”
Is McG really a gifted enough director to pull something like this off? I’m not sure. He made one of the worst sequels in recent history with Charlie’s Angels 2… wow that was horrible. I don’t know if this can work under McG… but who knows right? I mean, the first Charlie’s Angels was a lot of fun in my opinion, but this is a whole different ball game from that (We are Marshall wasn’t bad either).
