I’m not a big Keanu Reeves fan. There have been times where good casting has dropped him in a role that perfectly suites his limited ability, and I appreciate him when that happens… but let’s face it… a thespian he’s not (dose anyone remember that dreadful performance of fading in and out accents from Dracula?).
But the fact of the matter is his name is still a draw, and that means large projects will still offer him big parts. Seems that the upcoming “The Day The Earth Stood Still” remake is thinking along those lines as the word is Keanu Reeves is on board. The folks over at Movieweb give us this:
Actor Keanu Reeves has just signed on to star in a remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. According to Variety, the re-imagining of Robert Wise’s 1951 sci-fi classic is coming from 20th Century Fox. Reeves will be playing Klaatu, a humanoid alien from space who visits Earth with his trusty, indestructible robot pal. He warns world leaders that their continued warring with each other will eventually lead to complete world annihilation by a species watching from the deep recesses of space.
This is another one of those films that I really think will do well with a remake. The themes are relevant, the updated effects will do wonders, and it’s a film that most of today’s audience just plain hasn’t seen. So in general I like the idea of the new film… I’m just not sold on the casting here. Just my two cents.
