Djimon Hounsou Gets Telekinetic In Push

Djimon-HounsouIt seems to be all the rage now to not only do comic book superhero movies… but since the smash success of the TV show “Heroes”, it also seems to be all the rage to do kind of “realistic” superpower movies. We’ve been talking about the upcoming Samuel L Jackson and Haden Christensen flick “Jumper” (a movie about a guy who can teleport) and now we hear about “Push”.

Push is a new film from Paul McGuigan (who did a pretty solid job directing Lucky Number Slevin) that has added the amazing Djimon Hounsou (First time I saw him was in the single most underrated movie in history… Amistad… and he totally blew me away), as well as Dakota Fanning (yes we’re all tired of her, but she’s still the best young actress going) as well as Johnny Storm himself, Chris Evans.

So what is Push about? The nice guys over at RopeOfSilicon give us this synopsis:

The film centers on a group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities who hide from a U.S. government agency in Hong Kong and band together to try to escape the control of the division.

Ok, now on one hand I think this sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. Djimon Hounsou as a telekinetic? Bad ass! However… Jumper is coming out… and honestly, it does sound a little bit like copy-cat syndrome here. Yes yes yes… Jumper is about teleportation and Push is about telekinetics, I understand that… but the sound of the film sounds just a little too similar. We’ll have to wait and see.
