This week the new film “The Invasion” opens up and the early reviews are in. They don’t look good at all. Here’s the thing. You’ve got two amazing leads in the film with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, so you figure its got to have something going for it right? Well, not necessarily. All of the footage and trailers I’ve seen for the film have felt soulless and unmotivated. It never really made me go “Ooooo… I want to see that”. That’s not a good sign especially when you consider how much of a sci-fi sucker I am.
Anyway, here are what some of the critics are saying in their The Invasion reviews:
“A film that feels truncated, rushed, unfocused and — worst of all — not the slightest bit scary or suspenseful.”
Christy Lemire – Associated Press
“Actors of this caliber deserve more than a conventional actioner with banal dialogue, virtually no humor, and a rushed, highly improbable conclusion.”
Harvey S. Karten – Compuserve
“A misbegotten clone whose awfulness only accentuates the varied virtues of earlier versions of this pod-people tale.”
Frank Swietek – One Guy’s Opinion
As of this moment, “The Invasion” is holding a horrible 13% on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunate, but not really surprising. New of production problems and re-shoots and well as rumblings of infighting about direction… followed up by the aforementioned weak trailers and footage, all kind of lead me to expect this sort of response. To be honest, I’m not even sure I’m going to waste my time checking it out for free this week. Shame… Kidman and Craig together should have been better. Let’s hope this isn’t a bad omen for Golden Compass.
