After sitting dormant for so long, it seems like Thor movie news and rumors are now flying around at almost Star Trek speed. It was recently announced that Matthew Vaughn (Stardust) was given the nod to direct the big blonde hammer wielder… but what most people want to talk and speculate about it who will be the Mighty Thor himself.
Everyone has an opinion on this (personally I don’t care because I think the whole project is a stupid idea to start with), and the word flying around the internet today is that they may have found their Thor. Rome’s Kevin McKidd. Our friends at MoviesOnline give us this:
Is Kevin McKidd from the hit HBO show ROME going to play Thor in the upcoming comic book movie? Well according to MovieHole he will be. The new upcoming Thor movie is on the fast track with Matthew Vaughn directing. I have alot of hopes for this film but since Thor is pretty much an indestructible god it might be tough to write a good plotline for it.
Ok… I have no problems with Kevin McKidd as an actor. I haven’t seen him in a TON of things, but he seems more than capable of a guy. He’s even good on Rome (What’s with all the Rome guys getting Comic Book leading roles this month?), but I do have one huge doubt about the validity of this story… and that’s the dude’s size.
Thor is HUGE. Conan sized actually. This big, Monstrous god of thunder. McKidd is in decent shape no doubt… but he ain’t no Thor. The look isn’t the most important thing… but it has to be given some consideration. I’ll be surprised if we hear an official word about this.
